Our Summer Table

Nothing says Notary Dinner Party quite like handmade pasta, natural wine and crabs caught earlier that morning. Here's a look at our Summer Table and all of our tips to hosting a sweet and low maintenance dinner party
How to create a beautiful gathering without the overwhelm
//
First of all, prepare ahead of time. During our weekend with Sarah and the family at their beach house, Sarah prepared the pasta dough before we even got on the road! Meanwhile, Paul woke early to go out crabbing for us - yes, they are the best hosts ever
Secondly, get your guests involved. I feel like this is especially welcomed during a summer night of al fresco dining. I was thrilled to help cut out our fresh pasta, which Sarah later cooked with some delicious lemony and perfectly creamy sauce.
While the cooking began in the kitchen, Ella and the girls set our beautiful table and began shucking oysters we picked up at The Fish Peddler on our way out to their home.
Third tip of summer dinner party dining: serve family style. Truly, I don't know if there is anything better than gathering around a table full of food with loved ones. This option allows everyone to get cozy and settle on in until long after sunset. As host, this also invites your guests to serve themselves and feel comfortable doing so.
Finally - maybe our favorite tip for hosting at your dinner table is to set the mood. For our casual pasta and crab dinner, we incorporated our favorite dinnerware and glassware, passed around silverware and a whole baguette we each tore a chunk off of. There was a bowl of melted butter for the fresh crabs, which Paul taught us how to clean and enjoy. We lit our beeswax candles and eventually had to grab our sweaters before cuddling back up and pouring another glass of wine.
We adorned the table with wildflowers and greens gathered from the neighborhood, summer tomatoes and a fresh bunch of basil. With the waft of the ocean breeze, our beautiful meal and hum of nature around us, it was truly a summer night to remember. When we got too chilled, we hurried inside and left some of our mess until morning so that we could enjoy Sarah's homemade vanilla ice cream and share stories until we went off to sleep
